Why is coaching important?

Coaching is a key means of transferring learning and bringing awareness that leads to growth and action. It can be used in coordination with training to empower the application of learning points.

 

What is this course about?

This course provides practical step-by-step instructions to maximize the impact of coaching for performance improvement. It is based on internationally recognized coaching best practices, as well as IFC’s Guide to Training and International Coaching Federation's core competencies, and covers the following topics:

  • What is coaching?
  • How to adopt the coaching mindset?
  • What does it mean to start with the end in mind when it comes to coaching?
  • What ethical considerations should a coach adopt?
  • What tools should be in the continuous improvement toolkit?
  • How to coach for sustainability?
  • How to set up the coaching relationship with a coaching plan?
  • How to create and coach based on the strategic action plan?
  • How to overcome coaching roadblocks?

This is a self-paced online course. It is available in English and French.

 

What are the course objectives?

By the end of the course, participants are expected to be able to:

  • Describe the qualities of a coach.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior required of a coach.
  • Explain why a continuous improvement mindset and quality principles are important.
  • Use continuous improvement tools. 
  • Conduct high-impact coaching.
  • Detail the fundamental coaching activities and key performance indicators.
  • Create and use a coaching plan.
  • Use a strategic action plan for high-impact coaching.
  • Overcome coaching roadblocks.
  • Coach using the GROW model.

What are the prerequisites for taking this course?

Familiarity with the Foundations of Learning.

 

How long does it take to complete the course?

Each module is about an hour long, so the whole course may take 10-12 hours to complete.

 

How is it offered?

This is a self-paced, asynchronous online course that can be used in a blended learning. It is available in English and French. The course is hosted on the WBG Edcast platform. Please follow these instructions in English or French to register for the course.

I am having technical issues. Who can help me?

One of the most common problems users report is that they are not able to print a certificate of completion. You will only be able to print or download the certificate of completion if you finish all three modules and the evaluation at the end of the course. If at least one of those is pending, the option to print or download will not be available.

Please also note that the Edcast website login authentication process has changed effective September 24, 2022, and some of the users who were not active for the past year have been removed from the front-end system. Please follow the steps below to log in or create an account on the OLC website. The preferred browser to use is Google Chrome.

  1. Clear cache and cookies from the browser, then log in to the Edcast website using your email address. After you enter the email address, if you receive a message that your account does not exist, please follow step 2. However, if the system identifies your account and requests to enter the password, enter the password you use for logging on to your email account. 
  2. Clear cache and cookies from the browser, then go to the Edcast website and proceed to create a new account on the Edcast website using the same email address. The account creation will not remove the course you have already completed and the courses that were in progress.
