Inácio Calvino Maposse is a mozambican citizen. He was born in Chibuto District (Gaza Province, Mozambique) on August 11th, 1964. He earned his higher degrees in Agronomy, namely BSc (Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, Mozambique, 1988); Master of Science (University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, 1993) and PhD (Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, USA). He started his professional career as an intern-assistant lecturer in Pastures and Forages at the faculty of Agronomy and Forestry Engineering of Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, where he is currently an associate professor of the same discipline. Apart from pastures and forages, he also taught Botany and Introductory Agriculture, Introductory Animal Husbandry (at BSc,. Level), Experimental Design (BSc and MSc levels), and Research Methods (at MSc and PhD levels).
Over the years, Maposse has held several leadership positions in Mozambique (e.g. Dean of of Faculty of Agronomy and Forestry Engineering, National Director of Higher Education Coordination, and Director General of the Agricultural Research Institute of Mozambique). He has also has participated in projects involving national and international universities and research institutions and organizations His interventions were in areas of research, training and development as well as policy development in the areas of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and Agriculture.
He has 32 years of experience in academic, research and field work. Earlier in his profession, he conducted studies on the adaptability and productivity of tropical forages and acted as the principal agronomist, who was responsible for forage production at the Animal Production Institute of Mozambique. Later, his research focus was on grazing management and grass biomass production, but in the last decade he added the management of crops/forages systems to his research.
Maposse has participated in several national and international events in more than 30 countries, of l the five continents. In these events he made presentations and participated in panel discussions and business/policy meetings in the fields of Agriculture, Higher Education, Science and Technology. He also received several trainings on Strategic Planing, Public Awareness, Leadership and Innovation, Training of Trainers with IFC-LPI certification.
He has facilitated training of lecturers of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Catholic University of Mozambique on Research Proposal Writing (2011) and co-facilitated pilot training modules of PhD supervisors of Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (September 2020 and December, 2020).
He is a recipient of the following distinctions: inducted to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society as one of the top 5 % outstanding PhD in 1997 (Auburn University); Runner-up (1996) and winner (1997) of the Dr. A.L. Smith Scholarship Award, as the best PhD student in Agronomy (Auburn University; Nominee for the best international student Award at Auburn University (1995).
