Marie Yvonne Curtis holds a 3rd cycle doctorate in Ethnology and Aesthetics from the University of Paris I la Sorbonne (1997) and has been very interested in the artistic productions of the Nalu and Baga societies of Guinea and has published two books: "Meet the Nalu: Arts of the West Coast of Guinea" (Harmattan Paris editions) in 2013 and "Art Baga: between tradition and innovation" (5 Continents editions, Milan) in 2018.
During her academic studies and thereafter, she benefited from training in gender and development thanks to her missions to the Delegation of the European Commission in Guinea (1994), the Canadian cooperation or CIDA in Guinea (1998-2004), the World Bank in Guinea (2000-2009). Since December 2020, she obtained a trainer certificate from the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) program.
She has also been an expert in gender and development studies, analyzes and approaches for international organizations, public administrations, NGOs and associations for more than 25 years. She has acquired a good experience of integrating gender issues into the procedures of technical and financial partners: UNDP, CIDA, UNESCO, FAO, IFAD, World Bank, IFC, UNICEF, WFP, ECA (African Economic Commission), EU, AFD.
She has provided numerous trainings on capacity building in gender and development, whether in Guinea, in the sub-region (Senegal, Benin, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Haiti) or in northern countries (Netherlands, France, USA) for the benefit of diverse beneficiaries: project managers, agents; administrative officials, members of NGOs and associations; social practitioners in the administration, the private sector and associations. Different sectors of activity are affected: primary education, technical and vocational training, higher education, agriculture and livestock, transport and travel, public service, local development, institutional support, women's empowerment, women's rights, entrepreneurship ...
