Dr. Freshia Mugo – Waweru is an international finance expert and CPA with vast emerging markets experience in financial management, regulatory, academic research, risk analysis, and risk management. She is a seasoned lecturer, an excellent trainer, a focused researcher, and an exceptional consultant.
Since 2011, Dr. Mugo - Waweru has been training on finance for non-finance firectors and managers, corporate governance, family business governance and derivatives trading. She has trained blue-chip companies board of directors, university councils, medium level managers, family business owners and SMEs. In addition, Freshia has been a consultant in diverse projects like Finance Curriculum Development and Implementation, Board Chatter Development, Board’s Evaluation, among others. At Strathmore Business School Executive Education Department, she is the Academic Director of Finance for non-finance courses and corporate governance.
Dr. Mugo-Waweru led the establishment of the derivatives markets in Kenya. Her impact included policy formulation, risk assessment and mitigation, product design, investor education, the launch and post-launch analysis.
As chair of the audit, governance, and risk committee of Kenya’s Capital Market Authority (CMA), she ensured compliance to governance standards across the capital market players, leading to the establishment of recovery Boards for non-compliance firms. Freshia is keen on deepening and innovation of the capital markets in Kenya and Africa. She spearheaded the establishment of DMAs, SLBs, GDNs and GDRs in Kenya.
Dr. Mugo - Waweru has been a senior lecturer at Strathmore Business School since 2010. She teaches and researches in Financial Management courses like Financial Management (MBA, HCM, Schools), Managerial Finance, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, Derivatives Markets and Finance Seminar.
