Maria João Abreu was born in 1984 in Luanda, where she was also raised. She holds a degree in management from ISCTE (Current IUL in Portugal), a master's degree in advertising and marketing from the University of Leeds (UK), and an executive MBA from the University of Warwick (UK). She is a marketer with more than 16 years of experience in marketing, including 11 years as Chief Marketing Officer and Board Member, and a deep knowledge of the Angolan market in the B2C, FMCG, and pay-TV sectors, in multinational companies such as SABMiller, Coca-Cola Bottling, MultiChoice, Nestlé and Promasidor. A passionate professional with an analytical and strategic profile, interested in diversity and inclusion, start-ups, and female and social empowerment.

Maria founded Brand Works in 2023, the first Angolan and female-led company dedicated to consultancy and training in strategic marketing, marketing management, and growth marketing. During this period, she has worked with clients in diverse sectors such as technology, consumer goods, health, and social causes. Maria is both an Angolan and Portuguese national.
