I am Dr. Belay Kinati, a trainer, management consultant, strategic management expert, and capacity-building professional with extensive experience in higher education and the banking sector. I am also a husband and father who is passionate about empowering individuals and organizations through learning, research, and leadership development.
Since 2009, I have been actively engaged in teaching, research, and community service within public higher education institutions. During this period, I taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students in various business and management disciplines while conducting research on entrepreneurship, marketing, and organizational development. Beginning in 2015, I expanded my professional career into the banking industry, where I have held several leadership and management positions related to staff development, succession planning, leadership development, and training impact assessment.
I hold a PhD in Commerce and Management Studies from Andhra University, India, an MBA in Marketing Management, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sales and Marketing Management from Mekelle University, Ethiopia. My academic background has provided a strong foundation for my work in capacity building, organizational development, and strategic management.
Throughout my career, I have served in a variety of leadership and managerial roles, including Head of the Management Department, Head of Deliverology, Director of Staff Capacity Building, Manager of Succession and Leadership Development, and Manager of Training Impact Assessment. In these positions, I have led initiatives aimed at strengthening organizational performance, developing talent pipelines, and enhancing employee capabilities.
My teaching and training experience spans diverse audiences, including university students, banking professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. I have facilitated training programs on entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial mindset development, leadership, marketing, , time management, and small business development. I have also provided leadership and entrepreneurship training to leaders of micro and small enterprises within local communities.
As an educator, I have taught a wide range of graduate-level courses, including Business Research Methods, Project Management, Marketing Management, Strategic Management, Human Resource Management, Customer Relationship Management, Consumer Behavior, and Organizational Behavior. My teaching approach combines academic rigor with practical application to ensure meaningful learning outcomes.
My research interests focus on entrepreneurship development, entrepreneurship education, the growth challenges of micro and small enterprises, marketing strategy, taxation, integrated marketing communication, and entrepreneurial competency development. I have published scholarly works in areas such as entrepreneurship education, micro and small enterprise development, marketing strategy, supply chain management, integrated marketing communications, and entrepreneurial competency.
In addition to my teaching, research, and training responsibilities, I have actively contributed to institutional governance and development through participation in various committees, including research review committees and conflict resolution committees. These experiences have strengthened my ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups and contribute to evidence-based decision-making.
To continuously enhance my professional effectiveness, I have completed numerous training programs in entrepreneurial mindset development, digital skills, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership, coaching and mentoring, facilitation skills, career pathing, and personal effectiveness. These learning experiences have further strengthened my ability to design and deliver impactful capacity-building interventions.
Through my professional and academic work, I remain committed to advancing knowledge, building institutional capacity, promoting entrepreneurship, and supporting sustainable development through research, training, consulting, and strategic leadership.
