Godfrey Ssenteza is a seasoned banker with a strong business leadership and financial analysis background. He had trained in South Africa, and worked for multinational financial institutions and local banks in Uganda. Godfrey has strong sales and analytical skills and can draw from a wide experience within the private sector to build both individuals’ and organizational capacity. He has also been instrumental in the development of SME product offerings, developing capacity building intervention programs for SMEs in different banks, and continues to explore opportunity areas in the SME sector.
Godfrey is a PhD research student at Makerere University and his research is focusing on modelling risk for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He holds an MBA from Makerere University. During the course of study, he explored the role of financial statements in loan default among SMEs. He passed the CFA level 1 and is currently preparing to sit for level 2. He also holds a post graduate diploma in financial management from Uganda Management Institute and a bachelor's degree in commerce from Makerere University. His role as the head of SME in KCB Bank involved establishing the SME department in the bank. He was also responsible for making the bank the leading player in the SME sector in Uganda, while working with managers from the entire KCB Group of more than seven countries.This has exposed him to cross-cultural behaviors of SMEs and leadership dynamics.
Godfrey has worked in various financial institutions and has had exposure in various financial/banking systems and models. Whilst working with Centenary Bank, he was instrumental in growing micro customers into mainstream SME clients and played a central role in opening up five branches and enabling them to break-even in record times of less than three years. Whilst working with Stanbic Bank, Godfrey was instrumental in establishing a formidable and professional credit evaluation team with decision time of four days for all applications submitted to credit.
Godfrey is a board member of Pere Cadet Vocational Institute and holds various leadership positions in a select number of organizations across different industries and sectors. His participation on the board and these leadership roles enable him to provide strategic insights as well as gain an ongoing understanding of the micro and macro dynamics of different economic and social sectors.
Godfrey is an IFC-LPI certified trainer, which has enhanced his ability to train, support and build high-performance teams under his leadership.
