John K.B Alosias is a University Lecturer in the Department of Fisheries, School of Natural Resources & Environmental Studies at the University of Juba. He teaches five courses: Fisheries Policies, Laws & Administration; Fisheries Resources of South Sudan; Fisheries Resource Economics; Fish Technology; and Fish Nutrition. John Alosias previously served as Head of the Department of Fisheries from August 2017 to August 2018 under the previous College leadership, besides other administrative and professional participations and contributions. He is currently the Coordinator for Science-Based Programs in Preparatory College, University of Juba since June 2019.

In 2018, John Alosias became the Secretary for the “Seed Sector Development for South Sudan (SSD4SS) 2018-2019” project supported by Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). This project promotes the development of a seed system to increase income and reduce poverty among smallholder farmers across South Sudan. He also worked as a National Fisheries Specialist, in a consultancy position with UNIDO, in which he managed to develop a training manual, and scientific smoked-fish sample collection protocol, and trained four groups of women between July and September 2018 and two male groups fishers from two fishing camps in February 2019 on improved fish handling, smoking and packaging to reduce fish post-harvest losses & improve income.

John Alosias recently completed an international course on "Market Access for Food and Nutrition Security" between January 2020 and February 2020 at Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation in Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands under the OKP Scholarship - NUFFIC. He completed a Master’s Degree from Virginia State University, Virginia in the USA between January 2014 and December 2015 under the USAID sponsorship via the BHEARD program inherited from RHEA; and a Bachelor's Degree (honors) from the University of Juba, Khartoum in Sudan between December 2005 and February 2011 under Southern Sudan Government Scholarship.

Other roles include his participation at the World Aquaculture Society in which he presented one oral presentation and also served as a judge reviewing students’ abstracts submitted for the aquaculture conference in 2015. John Alosias is also a member of AQUACULTUREHUB. In addition, he is the author of "a review on the Application of improved fish handling and Smoking: safe quality and a potential business venture for developing countries (2020)" @London Journal of Research in Science, "a pilot survey on retail fish marketing in Juba, South Sudan: perceptions on motivation & challenges (2019)" @African Journal of Tropical Agriculture, and “building research infrastructures is key to developing South Sudan’s fisheries sector (2018)” @Africa Portal among other contributions.

John Alosias was born & grew up in Juba town in the Central Equatoria State, Republic of South Sudan. He can read, write & speak English, Arabic, and Bari (Kakwa).
